Pearsons Customer Spotlight celebrates the imagination, skill and craftsmanship of people working with art glass across the UK and beyond. From first projects and decorative panels to architectural installations and private commissions, every finished piece has its own story. By sharing these projects, we hope to recognise the makers behind the work, inspire others in the glass community and show the extraordinary range of ideas that can be brought to life through glass.

Customer Spotlight is an ongoing showcase of projects created by Pearsons customers. Selected submissions may be featured here, in our Inspiration Gallery, across Pearsons social media, in email features or in other Pearsons publications, with maker recognition wherever details are available. Whether you are a professional studio, an experienced artist, a student or someone completing a first project, we would be delighted to see what you have created.
Nature in Abundance
Simon Howard Glass
This month's featured project is Nature in Abundance, created by Simon Howard Glass for a private commission in Perthshire, Scotland. The richly detailed panel was produced using Lamberts glass and combines acid etching, hand painting, silver staining and plating. The result is a layered composition that celebrates the colour, movement and detail found in the natural world.
What inspired the design for Nature in Abundance? The client wanted a rich representation of local flora and fauna. Nature in Abundance came up in conversation as a shorthand brief, and it stuck!
Was the piece created for a particular room, window or setting? The piece is in five parts that surround a traditional Victorian internal doorway: four slim side panels and a large transom.
What are the approximate dimensions of the finished piece? The slim panels are 2 - 20cm x 120cm and 2 - 20cm x 60cm; the transom is 90cm x 60cm.
What was the most technically challenging or satisfying part of creating it? The piece has no coloured enamel, so all the colour comes from pot glass, etched flashed and silver stain. Where more colour was needed, the glass was additionally plated.
Is there anything else you would like readers to know about the commission or your work? Each piece that I’m commissioned to make is designed for a particular place, a particular brief and the available light. Each piece, whether traditionally leaded or painted, or contemporary or innovative in design, is always traditionally made.

Behind Every Piece
Every glass project begins with an idea. It may be inspired by a landscape, a painting, a building, a memory or the character of the person commissioning it. Through design, glass selection, cutting, leading, foiling, painting and finishing, that idea gradually becomes something permanent. The projects below show just some of the different ways members of the Pearsons community are using art glass in homes, gardens and commissioned work.

Commissioned for a customer who wanted a Lake District-inspired piece filled with colour and texture. The work was created using glass, copper foil and 60/40 solder from Pearsons Art Glass.

Sharing a project gives your work the opportunity to be seen by other artists, makers, customers and people discovering art glass for the first time. Selected projects may be recognised through Pearsons website features, social media posts, email campaigns, gallery content and printed material, with attribution wherever possible. It also helps build a richer community resource, allowing other makers to discover new approaches, materials, techniques and creative possibilities.
